A few thoughts from Pastor Randy Heacock

Pastor Randy and family

Our society places a high value on time. Few of us can go a day without some type of time appointment. It may be a meeting at work, a doctor's appointment, meeting a friend for lunch, transporting children to music lessons or even attending a church service. We ask many questions regarding time. How long will it take? What time will we get there? What time will it be over? We also pay for many things by time such as phone charges and many repair services. It can also seem like time rules us or we may feel like a slave to our appointment schedule. There is however another type of time. There is a time of opportunity. This time often presents itself as a chance to do something.  For example, if one wishes to leave a hand print in cement, this must be done within the window of opportunity. Such opportunity comes when the cement is beginning to harden but is not yet completely solid. In raising children, there are many times of opportunity to teach and encourage. In relating to others whether it be family, friends, so-workers or neighbors there are times of opportunity to build trust, respect and to show concern. The struggle is that our appointment time time often competes for and clashes with our time of opportunity. When Jesus walked on this earth, he often talked of opportunity to do the right thing or to respond to God. I encourage  you to focus on your time of opportunity and do not allow the appointment time to rule your life.

"I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints" are lyrics to a song that reflect how many perceive Christian faith. Unfortunately far to many Christians validate this perception. However, no where in the Bible have I found the commandment "Thou shall have no fun" or "Thou shall participate in no laughter". In fact, Jesus said just the opposite. He said "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly". (John 10:10) In several other instances Jesus invited people not to worry but to enjoy the freedom of knowing God's care and protection. A life of following Jesus is full of adventure. It is exciting, enjoyable and even fun. Don't buy into or validate any longer the perception that Christians have no fun. Today you can know and follow the Jesus who came to give life abundantly. Let the fun begin!
